Newsletter / Interview
I had the opportunity to curate and write the monthly newsletter for Novità Communications, titled The Design Connection. Below, you’ll find an excerpt from one of my favorite editions, featuring an interview I conducted with a Thato Mogotsi, Curator for Cape Town’s ZEITZ Museum of Contemporary Art Africa. You can read the rest of the interview here.
The Design Connection
The new year is in full swing and we’re thrilled to kickstart The Design Connection 2025 with a virtual trip to Cape Town in an interview with Thato Mogotsi, a curator for Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA). The pre-eminent museum for contemporary Art from Africa and its Diaspora is led by Koyo Kouoh, Executive Director and Chief Curator, who was recently announced as the Curator for the 61st Venice Art Biennale. A proud pan-Africanist with a keen eye and a story to tell, we are all excited to see what she will bring to the show.
Thato joined the museum in 2022, where she co-curated GILT, a seminal retrospective on the decades-long practice of Nigerian-born, British artist, Mary Evans, as well as a survey exhibition on the critical practice of French photographer Mame-Diarra Niang, titled Self as a Forgotten Monument. Most recently, she curated UNDERSTUDIES by Nolan Oswald Dennis, which was named by Frieze as one of its Top 10 shows of 2024.
We enjoyed connecting with her about her work at the museum, Kouoh’s impact, and what we can look forward to from Zeitz MOCAA in 2025.
